Providing a robust digital backbone that transforms urban data into reliable, cost-effective municipal services.
Zagreb, Croatia, 28.10.2026 – LORIOT has been selected to provide the LoRaWAN Network Server for a citywide smart infrastructure project in Zagreb, supporting the deployment of a large scale LoRaWAN network for utility metering and public lighting management. The project, delivered by OIV following a public tender process, marks one of the most significant LoRaWAN based smart city deployments in the Croatian capital to date.
The LORIOT Network Server has been deployed and will be enabling automated, frequent data collection from smart meters and connected devices operated by city utility companies, improving operational efficiency, data accuracy and fault detection, while establishing a digital foundation for smart city services across Zagreb.
Within the project, LORIOT provides the central LoRaWAN® Network Server, a critical component that ensures secure, reliable and scalable operation of the entire network. The scope includes full integration into the existing IT infrastructure and long term operational support, ensuring stability and continuity as the network evolves.
Drawing on its experience delivering and operating regional and nationwide LoRaWAN® networks worldwide, LORIOT has worked closely with OIV to design an architecture that supports growth over time and enables the city to introduce new applications and services as needs evolve.
“OIV has long-standing experience in building and maintaining communication infrastructure and developing Smart City solutions. We are proud that Zagreb Digital City recognized our expertise and entrusted us with this strategically important project. The introduction of smart water meters and other sensor devices will bring numerous benefits to citizens and city services. Users will gain better insight into their own consumption and faster fault detection, while city companies will improve data accuracy, reduce operational costs, and modernize business processes. Importantly, the installation of this new technology will not create additional costs for citizens,” said Denis Nikola Kulišić, Member of the Management Board – CEO of OIV.
The LoRaWAN® network serves as a core digital backbone for Zagreb’s broader smart city ambitions. By enabling a flexible and robust platform for data driven services, the project supports more efficient resource management, improved operational processes and better services for citizens, while aligning Zagreb with leading European cities advancing sustainable urban digitalization.
“We highly value our long standing collaboration with OIV, built on trust, strong technical cooperation and a shared vision for smart and sustainable infrastructure. This project represents an important milestone for us. We are proud to contribute our experience in delivering network management systems for smart cities and large scale LoRaWAN® networks, supporting the digital development of the City of Zagreb,” said Alan Rae, Chief Sales Officer at LORIOT.
